What Is Serra Meets?
Serra Meets is a monthly series of virtual lectures from leading clergy and experts on the topic of Catholic vocations, designed to inspire you and keep you connected to our mission as much of our ministry moves online.
Patterned after regular Serra meetings, these presentations open and close with prayer and feature notable speaker(s), followed by a Serra business topic. They are a wonderful opportunity for Serrans across the United States to come together during these pandemic times. Serra Meets sessions are recorded and available for viewing and download on our YouTube channel. We encourage Serra clubs to use these videos for virtual or in-person meeting programming, followed by discussion.

About Mike Downey
J. Michael Downey is President of the US Council for Serra and chair of the Leadership Development Committee for the Council. Until recently, he was also Region Director for the Central Region of Serra—a role he served in for the past 4 years. Prior to that he was District Governor of District 9E (Iowa) covering six clubs and four dioceses representing about 320 Iowa Serrans. He served in this role from 2014 until 2018. Mike is a member of the St. Serra Club of Des Moines, IA and he has held the following offices in that club: President, V.P. Vocations, V.P. Communications and Trustee. He chaired two region conventions held in the Central Region that were hosted by the St. Serra Club of Des Moines. Mike has a degree in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University (1974) and a law degree from the University of Iowa (1977). He served as Associate General Counsel and General Manager of the Des Moines Register and Tribune Co. and is a former–now retired–business owner and has served as president of three manufacturing companies.
